Description: This one of a kind Cenoceras ammonite fossil specimen from France features a large, heavy shell with a broad rounded coil and a clearly defined central whorl. The fossil is preserved in pale cream, tan and light brown limestone, with natural weathering, fine surface cracks and several rough areas where the outer shell has worn away. Complex wavy suture lines remain visible across much of the surface, while one side retains part of the open body chamber. The specimen is largely unpolished, giving it a natural field-collected appearance.

Ammonites were extinct marine cephalopods related to modern squid, octopus and cuttlefish. Their chambered shells helped control buoyancy as they moved through ancient seas. Ammonites became widespread and highly varied during the Mesozoic Era, and the group disappeared during the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous Period, approximately 66 million years ago. 

In traditional fossil folklore, ammonites have been associated with cycles, longevity, protection and steady change. Their coiled shells are often used as natural symbols of growth and the passage of time. These are cultural and metaphysical associations rather than scientifically established properties.
