Mined from: Bugojno Basin, Bosnia
Era: Cenozoic Era, Neogene Period, Middle Miocene
Geological Age: 15.2 to 14.0 mya
Description: This one of a kind Chelotriton fossil specimen preserves a small salamander-like amphibian in a clean slab of pale gray matrix, with the body set in a natural curved pose that makes the fossil immediately eye-catching. The skull, vertebral column, rib area, limb elements, and tail region are all visible, and the surrounding preparation gives the body a crisp outline against the stone. A leaf impression beside the head adds extra visual interest and helps reinforce the quiet lake-and-swamp environment these animals once inhabited.
What makes this piece especially appealing is the contrast between the delicate brown fossil bones and the soft, even matrix. It has a strong display presence because the fossil sits clearly within the slab rather than getting lost in a busy background. The overall presentation feels balanced and natural, with enough anatomical detail to reward close viewing while still reading well from a distance as a complete fossil specimen from a classic Miocene locality.
