Mined from: Ganesh Himal region, Bagmati, Nepal
Description: This one of a kind chlorite quartz specimen from Ganesh Himal has a dense, spiky habit with long narrow crystals packed tightly together in a tangled cluster. The overall look is dark and dramatic, with the quartz appearing deep charcoal to black because of the chlorite-rich coating or inclusion effect. What makes this piece stand out is how crowded and aggressive the crystal growth is. Instead of one main point, it is a full spray of crossing blades and narrow prisms, which gives it a very sculptural, almost metallic look.
Ganesh Himal is one of Nepal’s best known mineral regions for alpine quartz, especially material formed in open cracks and pockets within metamorphic host rock. In those environments, hot mineral-rich fluids move through fractures and slowly build crystals in tight spaces, which can lead to the kind of sharp, elongated growth seen here. Chlorite is common in these Himalayan pockets and can become trapped inside the quartz or coat the outside during growth, giving the crystals their darker tone. On this specimen, that combination creates strong contrast between the dark crystal body and the lighter attached quartz and matrix around the edges.
Metaphysically, chlorite quartz is often associated with clearing, grounding, and renewal. People are usually drawn to it when they want something that feels strong, protective, and focused rather than soft or decorative. In a specimen like this, the dense crystal growth and dark color give it a serious, concentrated presence.
