Mined from: Balochistan, Pakistan

Description

This specimen shows a dense cluster of black to dark grey dogtooth calcite crystals, with a distinctive stacked, almost feathered appearance. The crystals have a matte to slightly silky surface, with translucent grey edges where light passes through the thinner terminations. Along the base and edges, smaller secondary calcite crystals create a textured contrast, giving the piece depth and a more complex structure than typical single-phase calcite clusters.

Calcite from Pakistan commonly forms in hydrothermal veins that cut through limestone host rock, where mineral-rich fluids deposit calcium carbonate under changing pressure and temperature conditions. The dark coloration seen here is typically caused by inclusions—often carbon, manganese, or other trace elements—trapped during growth. The scalenohedral crystal shape reflects calcite’s trigonal crystal system, where growth favors sharp, elongated points. Pieces like this often form in open cavities, allowing crystals to develop freely into these dramatic, interlocking structures.

Black calcite is often associated with grounding and clearing energy. It is thought to help absorb negativity, promote emotional balance, and support mental clarity during periods of stress or decision-making.
