Beschreibung

Mined from: China

Era: Late Triassic
Geological Age: 235–228 mya

Description: This one of a kind Keichousaurus fossil specimen is preserved on a rectangular gray stone slab, with the animal’s slender skeleton standing out in a dark, finely defined outline. The long neck curves upward into a narrow head, while the equally long tail sweeps back across the matrix, giving the piece a balanced, almost calligraphic look. The torso, ribs, and limb elements are still visible, making this a strong display fossil with a clean natural contrast between bone and stone.

Keichousaurus was a small aquatic reptile from Triassic seas, not a dinosaur, and fossils from China helped make it one of the most recognizable marine reptile genera in the fossil trade and in educational collections. This specimen has the kind of delicate preservation that collectors look for in Chinese reptile fossils, where the pose of the animal is as important as the skeletal detail.
