Beschreibung

Locality: Afghanistan

Description: The blue is muddled and blotchy- like clouds throughout, rather than in layers with clear defined lines of calcite.

Lapis lazuli itself is not a mineral, but rather a rock composed of several minerals. The main component of lapis lazuli is the mineral lazurite, which gives it its distinctive blue color. Additionally, lapis lazuli generally contains calcite, which appears as white-grey veining, as well as pyrite, which appears as metallic gold flakes.

Chemical Composition: (Na,Ca)8(AlSiO4)6(S,SO4,Cl)1-2

Grade: Lapidary Grade
Appearance: Opaque
Inclusions: Technically the grey calcite in the lapis is the inclusion, as the blue is the favourable area. as for cracks, there are some, and the calcite can be soft when cutting. All-round, it is a commercial grade lapidary material, used in the industry for years.
