Description: Rainbow Moonstone is a variety of feldspar known for its iridescent flashes of blue and other spectral colors, a visual effect called adularescence. This optical phenomenon occurs when light scatters between layers of orthoclase and albite within the crystal, creating the signature shimmer that moves across its surface. Though called “moonstone,” the mineral is technically a type of labradorite within the plagioclase series, distinguished by its pale body color and luminous sheen. Polished into a worry stone, it offers both a smooth texture and a shifting play of light that makes each piece unique.
India is one of the world’s main sources of high-quality rainbow moonstone, especially from regions in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The gemstone has a long cultural history in the Indian subcontinent, where it has been associated with celestial and spiritual symbolism for centuries. Its durability and light interaction have also made it popular in jewelry and carvings since ancient times, admired across civilizations from Rome to modern-day lapidary art.
Metaphysically, rainbow moonstone is believed to enhance intuition, emotional balance, and spiritual insight. It is often seen as a stone of reflection and calm, encouraging clarity during periods of change.
