Description: Gem grade rough amethyst from Brazil is valued for its strong purple color, good transparency, and cutting potential. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored mainly by trace iron and natural irradiation within the crystal structure. Much of Brazil’s famous amethyst comes from volcanic regions where silica-rich fluids filled gas pockets in basalt and slowly crystallized over time. Brazil has been one of the world’s most important amethyst sources for generations, producing everything from massive cathedral geodes to fine gem-grade rough used in jewelry cutting and lapidary work.
