Mined from: Indonesia
Era: Cenozoic
Geological Age: Miocene, approximately 23-13 mya
Description: This one of a kind blue amber fossil specimen has been polished into a bold freeform with a deep sculptural hollow running through the center. In normal light it reads as a very dark blue-black to charcoal tone, with a glassy surface, rounded edges, and a heavy, solid look. A few natural marks and pale surface lines remain visible, which helps keep it from looking overly manufactured and gives the piece some honest character.
As an Indonesian blue amber specimen, this piece is fossilized tree resin rather than stone. Material from Indonesia is commonly tied to Sumatran deposits of Miocene age, and the “blue” effect in blue amber is typically a fluorescence phenomenon, which is why pieces like this can look very dark indoors and show their color more strongly in sunlight or under UV.
People are often drawn to amber for its connection to preservation, memory, and old earth energy. A piece like this tends to appeal to those who want something grounding and ancient, but still sleek and modern enough to work as a strong display object.
