Description: Slipper corals are an extinct order of corals which had a flowerlike appearance. They were related to jellyfish. These corals look like little Arabian slippers with a bit of a curve at the top. They are quite dull in colour.
The unique shape represents the growth of the animal: the exoskeleton flared out as the animal grew. These corals laid flat on the seabed with the apex (the tip of the shoe) pointing into the current.
