Description: Snowflake Obsidian is a type of volcanic glass known for its striking black appearance with white, snowflake-like patterns. The patterns are created by the inclusion of a crystalline mineral called cristobalite, which forms as the obsidian cools.

Cristobalite is a high-temperature polymorph of silica (silicon dioxide), meaning it has the same chemical composition as quartz (SiO₂) but a different crystal structure. While quartz forms in a trigonal crystal system, cristobalite forms in a tetragonal crystal system, and it typically forms at higher temperatures (over 1470°C or 2700°F).

In metaphysical beliefs, Snowflake Obsidian is thought to have grounding and protective properties. It is said to help clear negative energies and promote a sense of balance and healing, making it a popular choice for those interested in crystal healing or spiritual practices. It is associated with the root chakra.
