Mined from: Northern Pakistan

Description: Zircon is a naturally occurring mineral belonging to the group of nesosilicates. Zircon can be found in a variety of colors, including colorless, yellow, red, brown, green, and blue. Red zircons from Northern Pakistan are known for their unique and striking color. This area is rich in gem-quality zircons, and the red variants are especially prized by collectors and jewelers.

The red color of these zircons is due to two factors. The first is trace amounts of manganese and iron that become trapped within the crystal lattice. The second factor is the prescience of trace amounts of uranium and thorium within the zircon. These elements produce natural radiation from within the stone. This radiation modifies the crystal lattice and thus the optical properties of the mineral, contributing to the development of red hues in a process is called metamictization.

Red gemstones, including red zircon, are often linked with the root chakra due to their earthy and grounding energy. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and is associated with grounding, stability, and security. Balancing this chakra helps to promote a sense of belonging and connection to the earth, enhance courage, vitality, and survival instincts, and assist in overcoming fears and anxieties.
