Description: These are assorted petrified woods from all over USA- mostly Western. They consist of opalized as well as agatized woods. All are browns, beiges, blacks, etc. Great lapidary material.
Petrified wood is a type of fossil formed when plant material, typically wood, is buried under sediment and then subjected to heat and pressure over millions of years. During this process, the organic material is replaced by minerals, usually silica, which crystallize and preserve the original structure of the wood. The result is a beautiful, often colorful stone that retains the grain and texture of the original wood.

Inclusions: Petrified wood, for the most part, always has cracks. additionally, some pieces may have weathering and softer rinds- but overall this is lapidary grade wood and pretty good for cutting.
