Description: Campo del Cielo is one of the most famous meteorite fields in the world, located in northern Argentina, in the province of Chaco. This area is renowned for the meteorites that fell there approximately 4,000 to 5,000 years ago.

The event that created this meteorite field is considered one of the most significant in terms of impact and dispersal of extraterrestrial material. It is believed that the original meteorite was a large metallic body that fragmented upon entering the atmosphere, scattering numerous pieces over an area approximately 100 kilometers long and 30 kilometers wide.

Some of the largest meteorites found in Campo del Cielo include "El Chaco," which weighs about 37 tons, and "El Tano," which weighs around 19 tons. The meteorites in this region are primarily composed of iron and nickel, which is typical of metallic meteorites.

Campo del Cielo is not only of scientific interest but also holds cultural significance. Various legends and traditions have developed around the meteorites. One of the most famous legends tells of a celestial event described as an "iron rain." According to this story, the gods were displeased with humans and sent a storm of iron and fire from the heavens. This "rain" was said to have struck the earth, creating the meteorite field as a sign of divine retribution. Other local folklore describes the meteorites as remnants of a battle between celestial beings or star warriors. These beings, who were said to be fighting in the sky, had fragments of their weapons fall to Earth as they fought, resulting in the meteorite field.
