Description: These egg shell fragments are from the eggs of a Saltasaurus. Saltasaurus was a genus of herbivorous titanosaurid sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 to 65 million years ago. It was one of the first sauropods to be discovered with evidence of body armor, which makes it particularly interesting among paleontologists. Saltasaurus was relatively small for a sauropod, estimated to be around 12 to 13 meters (about 39 to 43 feet) in length. One of the most distinctive features of Saltasaurus was its dermal armor. It had small, bony plates called osteoderms embedded in its skin, which provided some protection against predators. Fossils of Saltasaurus were first discovered in the 1970s in the Salta Province of Argentina, which is how the dinosaur got its name.

Saltasaurus eggs would have been spherical to slightly oval in shape, with diameters ranging from about 12 to 14 centimeters (approximately 4.7 to 5.5 inches). This size is relatively small compared to the enormous size of the adult dinosaurs. The eggshells of Saltasaurus are characterized by a multilayered structure, which includes a thick outer layer and a more porous inner layer. The thickness of the eggshells suggests they were robust enough to protect the developing embryos while still allowing for gas exchange.
