Mined from: Morocco

Description: These limonite formations from Morocco are actually substituted pseudomorphs of Pyrite. A pseudomorph is a mineral that has replaced another mineral's structure but retains the external shape of the original mineral. In substitution pseudomorphs, the original mineral is replaced by a new mineral, atom by atom, while maintaining the original crystal shape. In the case of these limonite specimens, the original pyrite growth is replaced by limonite while preserving the cubic shape of pyrite crystals. The transformation from pyrite to limonite involves several stages of chemical reactions. Much simplified, the pyrite undergoes multiple stages of oxidization to form ferric sulfate, which then undergoes hydrolysis to form ferric hydroxide. Ferric hydroxide then dehydrates to form limonite.

Limonite is not a single mineral species, but a mixture of various hydrated iron oxide minerals. Its exact chemical composition can vary depending on factors such as the specific locality where it forms and the degree of hydration. However, limonite is typically composed predominantly of iron oxide hydroxides, primarily goethite and lepidocrocite along with varying amounts of other minerals and impurities.

Limonite is believed to resonate with the energies of the Solar Plexus Chakra due to its earthy yellow-brown color and its association with grounding and stability. In metaphysical practices, limonite is often used to help balance and activate the Solar Plexus Chakra, promoting a sense of empowerment, courage, and clarity of purpose. It is thought to assist in overcoming self-doubt and instilling a greater sense of confidence and self-worth. Additionally, limonite is believed to enhance one's ability to manifest intentions and achieve goals by aligning with the energy of the Solar Plexus Chakra.
