Geological Age: Between 55 and 33 mya

Description: Dicotaledon species Petrified Pine Cones are from the Western Sahara of Morocco. Great detail & preservation with the wood being replaced by agate. This pine cone is from the Eocene age 56 million years ago.

The petrified seed cones found in the Western Sahara of Morocco are fossilized reproductive structures from extinct dicotyledonous trees, a type of broadleaf tree. Unlike cones from modern pines, which bear naked seeds in spirally arranged scales, these dicot cones housed their seeds in protective enclosed structures, similar to modern magnolias, banksias, or legume pods.
