Description: Silver sheen obsidian from Mexico is a natural volcanic glass distinguished by its reflective, silvery bands that appear to float beneath the surface. Unlike standard black obsidian, this variety develops a layered sheen caused by aligned microscopic inclusions—often tiny gas bubbles or mineral particles—that reflect light in a directional way. When polished, these layers create a soft metallic glow that shifts as the stone is moved, giving each piece a distinct visual depth.

This material forms during rapid cooling of silica-rich lava, typically in volcanic environments where magma is expelled and quenched before crystals can develop. The lack of crystalline structure makes obsidian technically a glass rather than a mineral. In regions like Jalisco, volcanic activity has produced large deposits of high-quality obsidian, which has been used for thousands of years by Mesoamerican cultures for tools, blades, and ceremonial objects due to its sharp fracture and workable nature.

Silver sheen obsidian is often associated with reflection, clarity, and self-awareness. Its mirror-like surface and layered appearance give it a reputation for helping people examine deeper thoughts or patterns.
