Description

Mined from: 79 Mine, Arizona, U.S.A.

Description: These Smithsonite var. Cuprian mineral specimens from Arizona feature blue-green to green Smithsonite formed as rounded, botryoidal coatings, crusts, and compact mineral growths. Cuprian Smithsonite gets its colour from small amounts of copper associated with the zinc carbonate mineral, producing shades that can range from pale turquoise and mint green to stronger blue-green. Individual pieces may show natural cavities, uneven surfaces, layered growth, and contrasting brown, tan, or darker matrix depending on the specimen.

Smithsonite is a zinc carbonate mineral with the chemical formula ZnCO₃ and commonly forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized portions of zinc-bearing ore deposits. It is usually found in botryoidal, reniform, stalactitic, earthy, or massive forms, while distinct crystals are less common. Arizona has numerous historic copper, lead, and zinc districts where Smithsonite occurs in oxidized ore zones; documented localities include Bisbee, the Mammoth–St. Anthony Mine at Tiger, and several other mining districts throughout the state. Without a more specific locality, an exact mine should not be assigned to these specimens.

Spiritually, Smithsonite is commonly associated with calm, emotional balance, patience, and easing mental stress. Blue-green Cuprian Smithsonite is also sometimes connected with communication, personal growth, and working through change with a steady mindset. These associations are traditional metaphysical beliefs rather than scientifically established properties.
