We have not been able to confirm the exact site behind the name.

Amethyst is recorded in the county. In the Washougal mining district, state geologists noted amethyst among the quartz on old shaft dumps, from quartz veins cutting granodiorite. The district has more than a dozen small gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc prospects, nearly all in narrow quartz veins.

Amethyst is quartz coloured purple by traces of iron combined with natural radiation.

These tiny clusters range from light to medium purple.
