Description

Mined from: Minas Gerais, Brazil

Description: This one of a kind epidote in quartz specimen from Brazil features a broad, flattened quartz crystal with a clean geometric shape and strong internal visibility. The quartz is mostly clear to pale smoky in tone, with a soft gray cast that lets the internal structure show through without making the piece look dark or muddy. What stands out most are the sprays and scattered needles of epidote caught inside the quartz. Some are fine and hair-like, while others are thicker and more sharply defined, with greenish, brown, and rusty tones that create contrast against the pale quartz body. The overall effect is architectural and precise, with the inclusions looking almost suspended inside the crystal.

Specimens like this form when quartz grows from silica-rich hydrothermal fluids while earlier or simultaneous epidote crystals are already present in the cavity or fracture system. As the quartz continues to grow, it seals those epidote crystals inside, preserving them in place. That makes included quartz especially interesting because it records more than one stage of mineral growth in a single specimen. Brazil, especially Minas Gerais, is one of the world’s classic sources for quartz, and included pieces from the region are well known for their clarity and strong crystal development. In a specimen like this, the quartz acts almost like a window into the mineralizing environment, showing trapped rods and sprays that would normally only be seen on matrix.

People are often drawn to epidote in quartz for the mix of clarity and intensity. Quartz is commonly associated with amplification and focus, while epidote is often linked with growth, momentum, and clearing out what has gone stale. Together, they tend to appeal to people who want something that feels sharp, active, and purposeful rather than soft or purely decorative.
