Description: Dactylioceras is a genus of extinct ammonite that lived during the Jurassic period, and fossils of this genus are commonly found in the geological formations of Yorkshire, England.  Dactylioceras ammonites are characterized by their coiled, planispiral shells with prominent ribbing that radiates from the center of the shell outward. The ribbing is often straight and closely spaced.
Dactylioceras lived during the Early Jurassic period, specifically during the Toarcian stage, which is approximately 183 to 174 million years ago. These ammonites lived in marine environments, where they floated in the water column and possibly fed on plankton or other small marine organisms. They were likely good swimmers and could adjust their buoyancy using their chambered shells.
