Description: This one of a kind Potamon sp. fossil shows a small freshwater crab preserved inside a pale cream to warm tan carbonate slab. The crab sits tucked into a natural-looking pocket in the matrix, with the rounded carapace and folded limbs still clearly visible. The surrounding stone has a bubbly, porous texture that frames the fossil well and gives the whole piece a strong display presence. It looks like a crab caught in place as mineral-rich water slowly sealed the scene around it.

This type of specimen is typically associated with freshwater carbonate deposition, where calcium-rich waters build up soft, porous limestone around organic material over time. That fits the look of this piece very well. The crab is not just lying on the surface. It appears partially enclosed by the host rock, which gives it more depth and a more natural fossil presentation than a simple flattened imprint. The Anatolian origin also makes sense for this style of preservation, since Turkey is well known for continental carbonate deposits and travertine-forming environments.

Fossil crabs are often chosen by people who like symbols of resilience, protection, and adaptability. This piece has a quiet, preserved feel to it, so it carries that same sense of endurance and stillness, like something small that managed to outlast its own world.
