Description

Mined from: Mibladen mining district, Morocco

Description: This one of a kind Pyrite on Matrix mineral specimen from Morocco features a striking contrast between brassy metallic Pyrite crystals and a dark, rugged matrix. The Pyrite has formed in dense clustered growths, with blocky cubic and modified cubic crystals creating a reflective golden surface across one side of the specimen. Beneath the Pyrite, the darker matrix shows a charcoal grey to brown-black tone with rough, uneven texture and occasional yellow-gold mineral staining, giving the piece a strong natural contrast and a classic sulphide-mineral display character.

Pyrite, often called “fool’s gold,” has been known since antiquity and was historically mistaken for gold because of its bright metallic lustre. Its name comes from the Greek word for fire, as Pyrite can create sparks when struck against metal or stone. Moroccan sulphide specimens are well known among collectors for their bold metallic crystal formations and attractive matrix associations.

In metaphysical traditions, Pyrite is often associated with confidence, vitality, protection, and abundance. This is often appreciated as a balancing mineral pairing, connecting Pyrite’s bright, motivating energy with the matrix' stabilizing and earthy qualities. Its naturally dramatic form makes it an appealing display piece for collectors of Moroccan minerals and metallic specimens.
