Description: Malay Garnet or Malaia is one of the most rare and interesting 'hybrid' varieties of garnet. It is predominately a mix of spessartine and pyrope. Malaya garnet for the most part, is considered a variety of pyrope, considering most specimens contain higher percentages of pyrope as their primary component. The name "malaya" is a Swahili word which translates to "outcast" due to fact that when it was first discovered by miners it was considered to fall outside any of the standard garnet categories; thus, it was cast aside. Now, However; it is highly prized by gem collectors because of its rarity. This makes Malay garnet a highly sought after stone. These brilliant malay garnet loose stones come in various traditional shapes.
Due to the fact that we have over 50 000 loose gemstones in store that all differ, we have chosen not to post every individual stone. What you see here is a sample from the larger batch. Please shop in store, or schedule a phone/ video appointment with us.
