Description: Rhyolite is a type of volcanic rock that is high in silica content, typically containing more than 70% by weight. Rhyolite has been used for thousands of years to create tools and weapons due to its hardness and ability to be flaked into sharp edges. Rhyolite forms from the rapid cooling of high-silica magma, often during explosive volcanic eruptions. This rapid cooling leads to the fine-grained or glassy texture. Common minerals found in rhyolite include quartz, feldspar (both plagioclase and alkali feldspar), and biotite or hornblende.
