Description
Mined from: Errachidia Province, High Atlas Mountains, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Description: This one of a kind Moroccan specimen has a broad, low profile and is packed with mineral texture from end to end. Cream to off-white feldspar crystals form the main body of the piece, many showing sharp blocky faces and stepped growth surfaces. Between them sit clusters of smoky to grey quartz crystals with glassy luster and short terminations, giving the specimen a layered look rather than a single dominant point. Dark brown to nearly black tourmaline crystals rise throughout the matrix as stout prismatic rods, some standing upright and others partly enclosed by later mineral growth.
This kind of association is typical of pegmatite environments, where feldspar grows early and in volume, quartz fills remaining pockets as silica-rich fluids continue moving through the rock, and tourmaline forms from boron-rich late-stage fluids. The result is a specimen that records several stages of crystallization in one piece. What makes this example stand out is its dense coverage and balanced contrast: pale feldspar plates, translucent quartz, and scattered tourmaline crystals distributed across the entire surface without one area feeling empty.
Collectors often like black tourmaline for its reputation as a grounding and protective stone. Feldspar is sometimes associated with steadiness and practical structure, while quartz is thought to support clarity and amplification. Together, this combination is often appreciated as a display piece with a calm, anchored feel.
