Locality: Bouse, Arizona, U.S.A.
Description: This petrified wood is dug by the shop owner. Some pieces have hardened desert cement around them. The pieces have a nice beach wood colour with beige and brown. They are strong enough to hold up for lapidary use.
Petrified wood is a type of fossil. Wood buried in sediment or volcanic ash soaks up silica from groundwater. The silica coats and fills the cells, so the wood's structure is preserved in stone. The result is a beautiful, often colorful stone that retains the grain and texture of the original wood.
Petrified wood from Bouse, Arizona, is known for its stunning colors and unique patterns. The wood often displays rich hues, including deep reds, browns, and even vibrant blues and greens, influenced by the minerals present in the soil during the petrification process.
