Description: Tremolite is a calcium-magnesium silicate in the amphibole group, a family of minerals built from double chains of silica tetrahedra. It typically forms when magnesium-rich limestones or dolomites are altered by heat and pressure during metamorphism. Pure tremolite is white to grey; the green colour in these spheres comes from iron taking the place of some of the magnesium, which shifts the mineral toward its close relative actinolite. These pieces were mined and polished in Pakistan.
