Description: This one of a kind mammoth tooth fossil specimen from the San River in Poland features a heavy, compact molar form made up of tightly stacked enamel plates. The tooth shows strong black to charcoal-grey enamel bands running through a tan and brown dentine matrix, giving the sides a layered, striped appearance. Several areas retain broad sections of the chewing surface, where the worn enamel ridges and natural texture of the tooth can be seen. Cracks, chipped edges, exposed layers and missing sections are present throughout, which is normal for a river-recovered Pleistocene fossil of this age.

The San River in southeastern Poland cuts through sediments that have produced Ice Age animal remains, including mammoth teeth, tusk fragments and bones. Fossils recovered from river deposits are often stained dark by minerals and organic material in the surrounding sediment. This specimen is from the Pleistocene Epoch, though the exact age and mammoth species cannot be confirmed without detailed collection records and scientific testing.
