Description: This one-of-a-kind smoky citrine is a 5.35 carat freeform flatback step cut, a stone with a step-cut faceted crown on top and a flat polished back underneath. Its six-sided freeform outline and flat back make it a great blank for reverse intaglio carving, as well as an unusual stone for setting.
Smoky citrine is quartz that carries both colours at once: the smoky brown of smoky quartz and the golden yellow of citrine. Smoky colour in quartz comes from natural irradiation acting on trace aluminium in the crystal, while yellow tones are linked to trace iron. This stone comes from our Brazilian citrine and smoky quartz lot. Brazil is one of the world's main sources of both varieties. At a hardness of 7, quartz is durable enough for everyday jewelry.
In crystal traditions, smoky quartz is associated with grounding and citrine with warmth and optimism. These associations come from spiritual and folk traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
