Mined from: Deccan Trap quarries, Pune, India
Description: This one of a kind crystal cluster from Pune, India is covered in a dense, sparkling assemblage of pale cream, white, and soft mint-green crystals. The most prominent crystals appear to be pale green Apophyllite, occurring as translucent blocky to pyramidal crystals across the surface, accompanied by abundant cream to white Stilbite in bladed, radiating, and sheaf-like formations. Smaller clear to pale crystals fill the spaces between the larger formations, creating a highly textured surface with excellent brilliance. Areas of the dark basalt matrix remain visible around the base, emphasizing the specimen's natural volcanic origin.
The Pune District of Maharashtra is internationally famous for mineral pockets formed within the Deccan Traps, enormous basaltic lava flows produced during the late Cretaceous. Cavities within these basalts later filled with mineral-rich fluids, allowing spectacular secondary minerals including stilbite, heulandite, apophyllite, and other associated species to crystallize. Pale green apophyllite together with white or cream stilbite is a particularly characteristic Pune assemblage. Documented examples occur throughout the district, including the Wagholi quarry area and other basalt workings around Pune.
In metaphysical traditions, Apophyllite is associated with clarity, intuition, spiritual awareness, and meditation, while Stilbite is associated with calm, emotional balance, creativity, and peaceful sleep. Together, the minerals are often used as a symbolic combination for creating a calm and uplifting environment. The impressive size and extensive crystal coverage of this specimen make it especially suited as a focal piece for a mineral collection, meditation space, home, or office.
