Locality: Mibladen Mining District, Morocco

About thirty years later the Swedish chemist Nils Gabriel Sefström found an unknown element in iron ore from Taberg, Sweden, and it was named vanadium after Vanadís, a name of the Norse goddess Freyja. Friedrich Wöhler then showed that vanadium was the same element del Río had found in the Zimapán brown lead, the mineral we now call vanadinite.

After the industrial lead mines closed, between about 1976 and 1980 depending on the account, former miners turned to digging mineral specimens. The trade grew through the 1980s and 1990s around Midelt, and Mibladen became one of the world's best-known sources of vanadinite.

Anglesite, a lead sulfate, is one of the minerals listed as commonly associated with vanadinite. Both form when primary lead ore such as galena weathers in the oxidised upper parts of a deposit.

This one of a kind Vanadinite with Anglesite mineral specimen from Morocco features a rich cluster of reddish brown to burnt orange Vanadinite crystals spread across a natural earthy matrix. The specimen is covered with blocky, stepped crystal formations showing strong geometric structure, sharp-edged faces, layered growth lines, and glossy reflective highlights. Between the warm Vanadinite crystals, subtle gray to translucent areas of Anglesite add contrast and mineral complexity, giving the piece an additional silvery-gray sparkle against the darker brown matrix. Its dense crystal coverage, sculptural shape, and mixed mineral presence make it a striking collector’s display piece.

Vanadinite is a lead chlorovanadate mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of lead deposits, often alongside other secondary lead minerals such as Anglesite. Moroccan Vanadinite is especially well known among collectors, with famous localities including the Mibladen and Taouz mining districts, where the mineral often forms vivid red, orange, and reddish brown hexagonal crystals. Anglesite, a lead sulfate mineral, can occur in the same oxidized lead-rich environments, forming as lead minerals alter over time. Together, the Vanadinite and Anglesite in this specimen reflect the complex mineral chemistry of Morocco’s classic desert mining regions.

Spiritually, Vanadinite is often associated with focus, motivation, creativity, and grounded energy, while Anglesite is commonly connected with clarity, spiritual awareness, and gentle energetic purification. Many crystal enthusiasts connect Vanadinite with stamina and productivity, making it a popular stone for workspaces, studios, and collections meant to inspire action and persistence. The presence of Anglesite adds a lighter, more reflective quality to the piece, balancing Vanadinite’s warm, driven energy with themes of insight, calm, and higher perspective.
