Description: Obsidian is natural volcanic glass. It forms when silica-rich (rhyolitic) lava cools so quickly that crystals do not have time to grow, so it has no crystal structure at all. It breaks with curved, extremely sharp edges, and peoples across Mexico used it for blades, points and tools for thousands of years.

In Crystal Lore: In crystal lore, obsidian is traditionally associated with protection, honesty and self-reflection. Polished obsidian mirrors were used in ancient Mexico, and some believe the stone shows a person truths about themselves. It is linked with the root chakra and, in zodiac traditions, with Scorpio and Sagittarius.
