Specifications
Description
Locality: Lower slopes of Mount Ciremai, near Kuningan, West Java, Indonesia
Description: Despite its trade name, Bumblebee "Jasper" is not jasper and contains no quartz. Gemmological studies (Fritsch & Ivey, Journal of Gemmology, 2018) found it is mostly fibrous, slightly magnesium-rich calcite that formed in a solfatara, a volcanic vent releasing sulphur-rich gases, on the slopes of the active Mount Ciremai volcano. Its bright yellow comes mainly from pararealgar, the orange from a mix of pararealgar and realgar (both arsenic sulphide minerals), and the black from pyrite. It is soft, about 5 or below on the Mohs scale, and the porous stone is commonly stabilised before polishing. Also sold as Bumble Bee Stone or Eclipse Stone.
In Crystal Lore: In crystal lore, Bumblebee stone is traditionally associated with confidence, optimism and getting things done, a reputation that fits its bright, buzzing colours. Some believe it suits people starting a new project or running their own business. It is linked with the solar plexus and sacral chakras and, in zodiac traditions, with Leo.
Chemical Composition: CaCO3
