Description

Locality: Xiefang Mine, Ruijin County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China

Barite commonly forms well-shaped crystals, with more than 70 crystal forms recorded, usually as thin to thick tablets or prisms, and sometimes as crested or rosette-like clusters. It can be colourless, white, yellow, brown, grey or pale red, green or blue, and is often colour-zoned. It typically grows in low-temperature hydrothermal veins.

The Xiefang mine near Ruijin, in southern Jiangxi Province, China, is a fluorite mine on a volcanic-hydrothermal vein system about 10 km long. Mindat records barite, fluorite, quartz, pyrite and calcite among its minerals. Golden barite from Xiefang, often on green or purple fluorite or white quartz, has reached collectors since at least about 2010.

Barite is barium sulfate, BaSO4. Its name comes from the Greek for weight, because it is unusually heavy for a non-metallic mineral, with a density of about 4.5. It is soft, at 3 to 3.5 on the Mohs scale, and has a vitreous to resinous, sometimes pearly lustre.

This one-of-a-kind golden barite specimen from China is an impressive collector piece, featuring a sparkling cluster of honey-gold to smoky brown barite crystals on a darker natural matrix. The specimen displays many tabular, bladed, and blocky crystal formations with glossy faces, layered growth, and warm amber-golden translucency.

This piece has excellent display appeal from multiple angles, with larger golden barite crystals mixed among smaller clustered crystals across the matrix. The dark backing contrasts nicely with the golden crystal growth, making this a standout mineral specimen for collectors, crystal displays, natural décor, or geology collections.

Golden barite is commonly associated with clarity, grounding, confidence, and spiritual alignment. Many metaphysical collectors use barite for meditation, energy clearing, focus, and connecting higher awareness with practical action. Its golden color is often linked with the solar plexus chakra and personal empowerment.
