Description
Locality: Morocco
Description: Orange "selenite" spheres are cut from satin spar, the fibrous form of gypsum (calcium sulphate). Gypsum typically forms as mineral-rich water evaporates. In satin spar, the crystals grow as fine parallel fibres, which give the polished surface its silky band of light. The warm orange colour comes from natural iron oxide. Gypsum is very soft (2 on the Mohs scale) and dissolves slowly in water, so keep these spheres dry.
In Crystal Lore: In crystal lore, orange selenite is traditionally associated with warmth, creativity and self-esteem. The name selenite comes from Selene, the Greek goddess of the Moon, and some believe the stone carries a gentle, moonlit calm. It is linked with the sacral chakra and, in zodiac traditions, with Cancer and Taurus.
