Description: This Prophecy Stone mineral from Libya features a natural rounded to star-like form with earthy brown, tan, and dark iron-rich tones. These unusual desert stones often show raised ridges, knobby points, and weathered surface texture, giving each piece a distinct sculptural look. Their dense, heavy feel and natural iron oxide composition make them interesting collector pieces, especially for those drawn to desert minerals and unusual pseudomorph formations.
Prophecy Stones are generally considered iron oxide / iron hydroxide pseudomorphs, commonly described as limonite, goethite, or hematite after marcasite or pyrite. In simpler terms, the original sulfide mineral shape was gradually replaced by iron-rich material while keeping much of the original crystal form. They are most commonly associated with the Sahara Desert region of Libya and Egypt, though many are commercially sold simply as “Libyan Prophecy Stones.”
