Descrizione

Locality: Paprok Mine, Afghanistan

Description: Paprok, in Kamdesh District of Afghanistan's Nuristan province, is a pegmatite field high in the Hindu Kush. Pegmatites are very coarse-grained granite veins that form from the last, element-rich fluids of a cooling magma, and they are where gem beryl and tourmaline grow.

Paprok is best known to collectors for tourmaline, including world-class pink elbaite and "watermelon" crystals with pink cores and green rims. Aquamarine is also found there, along with morganite, cleavelandite and apatite.

Aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl, a beryllium aluminium silicate.

These pieces are blue-green aquamarine crystals, sold by carat weight from 0.5 to 3 ct.

In crystal traditions, aquamarine is associated with the throat chakra, calm emotions and safe travel.
