Locality: Xiefang Mine, Ruijin County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China
Barite commonly forms well-shaped crystals, with more than 70 crystal forms recorded, usually as thin to thick tablets or prisms, and sometimes as crested or rosette-like clusters. It can be colourless, white, yellow, brown, grey or pale red, green or blue, and is often colour-zoned. It typically grows in low-temperature hydrothermal veins.
The Xiefang mine near Ruijin, in southern Jiangxi Province, China, is a fluorite mine on a volcanic-hydrothermal vein system about 10 km long. Mindat records barite, fluorite, quartz, pyrite and calcite among its minerals. Golden barite from Xiefang, often on green or purple fluorite or white quartz, has reached collectors since at least about 2010.
Barite is barium sulfate, BaSO4. Its name comes from the Greek for weight, because it is unusually heavy for a non-metallic mineral, with a density of about 4.5. It is soft, at 3 to 3.5 on the Mohs scale, and has a vitreous to resinous, sometimes pearly lustre.
This one-of-a-kind golden barite specimen from China is a striking display piece. featuring lustrous honey-gold to smoky brown barite crystals with large, tabular crystal formations and smaller clustered crystals throughout. The specimen has a dramatic sculptural shape with glossy faces, natural stepped growth, and excellent earthy golden coloration.
This piece is ideal for mineral collectors, crystal displays, geology collections, natural décor, or anyone who enjoys unique statement specimens.
Golden barite is commonly associated with clarity, grounding, confidence, and spiritual alignment. Many metaphysical collectors use barite for meditation, energy clearing, focus, and connecting higher awareness with practical action. Its golden color is often linked with the solar plexus chakra and personal empowerment.
