Description: This one-of-a-kind grey agate is a 9.68 carat round brilliant cut. This grey agate was dug by our own team at the Sackum Creek agate site in the hills between Boston Bar and Spences Bridge, British Columbia, where agate nodules weather out of volcanic rock on the slopes above a forestry road. You can watch a dig at this site on our YouTube channel: Sackum Creek Agate.
Agate is a variety of chalcedony, a quartz made of microscopic fibres. It forms when silica-rich groundwater seeps into gas pockets and cracks in volcanic rock long after the lava has cooled, depositing silica that slowly hardens into a dense, translucent stone. At 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, agate is tough enough for everyday jewelry.
In crystal traditions, agate is often associated with balance, calm and steadiness. These associations come from spiritual and folk traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
