Description: This one-of-a-kind smoky quartz is a 9.03 carat freeform flatback step cut, with a step-cut faceted crown on top and a flat polished back underneath. Clear colour zoning sweeps across the stone in pale and deeper bands of smoky grey-brown. The flat back makes it a great blank for reverse intaglio carving.

Smoky quartz is the brown to grey variety of quartz. Its colour comes from natural irradiation acting on trace aluminium within the crystal. At a hardness of 7 it is durable enough for everyday jewelry.

In crystal traditions, smoky quartz is often associated with grounding. These associations come from spiritual and folk traditions rather than scientifically established properties.
