Description
Mined from: Dundas Quarry, West Flamborough Township, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Description: This one of a kind calcite pyrite specimen from Dundas Quarry, Ontario has a crowded, dramatic surface packed with sharp calcite points and scattered metallic pyrite. The calcite crystals range from pale translucent to smoky gray with reddish-brown staining across many of the faces, giving the piece a warm, earthy look instead of a plain white appearance. The crystal coverage is heavy from end to end, with tight sprays and starburst-like groupings that create a dense, bristling texture across the whole specimen. In the photos, the mix of glassy luster, iron-toned staining, and brassy metallic patches gives it a rugged but attractive collector look.
Dundas Quarry is a classic Ontario collecting locality known for calcite and sulfide associations in carbonate host rock. This specimen fits that locality well, showing calcite as the dominant crystal growth with pyrite adding contrast and character rather than overwhelming the piece. The pyrite appears as muted brassy to olive-gold metallic areas tucked among and beneath the calcite, while the matrix shows the rough quarry-hosted setting that ties the whole specimen together. It is a strong display piece because it has both mineral variety and a lot of natural structure, with no flat or dead-looking face.
In metaphysical traditions, calcite is often associated with clarity, energy flow, and renewed momentum, while pyrite is commonly linked with confidence, protection, and determination. Together, they are often seen as a pairing of clear thinking and grounded drive.
