Description

Origin: BC, Canada

Description: Serpentine is a metamorphic mineral group valued for its rich green shades, smooth textures, and ability to take an excellent polish. This thin cut rough material from British Columbia, Canada is lapidary grade, prepared in slices that make it easy to work with for cabbing, inlay, or carving. The stone ranges in tone from light apple-green to darker forest hues, sometimes accented with subtle veining or mottling that enhances its natural character. Its Mohs hardness of 3–6, depending on variety, allows for ease of shaping while still yielding a durable finished surface with a waxy to silky luster.

British Columbia has long been recognized as a source of high-quality serpentine, particularly varieties suited for decorative and lapidary purposes. The thin cut preparation gives lapidary artists a head start, saving time in sawing and providing slabs ready for further shaping or polishing. Whether transformed into jewelry, ornamental carvings, or tumbled pieces, this serpentine captures the earthy elegance of Canada’s geological heritage and offers a versatile canvas for lapidary creativity.
