Description
Mined from: El Otfal Formation, Boudib, Morocco
Age: Middle Devonian
Geological Age: 420mya
Species: Harpes (Scotoharpes)
Description: This is a Harpes trilobite. It has a dramatic "head shield" and is thought to have helped the trilobite stay on top of the soft ocean floor. The "head shield" was covered in sensory pits which may have had hairlike features. Trilobites were similar to little beetles that scurried along the ocean floor. Trilobites ate anything smaller than themselves and were diverse because some were scavengers, others predators, and also filter feeders.
