How Its Made: To make this this hand carved comet shooting through space with Saturn in the background, I carve into one of our window cut gems (available in the loose stones section of the shop).
The technique is known as reverse intaglio. Once the piece is finished, I use a specially formulated wax to press the design as a "relief casting". That wax is then turned into an exact replica as a metal master copy.
