High on Mount Breakenridge above Harrison Lake, the King Citrine Mine is a glacier-exposed, fracture-controlled hydrothermal quartz system producing some of British Columbia’s most distinctive mineral specimens. The site yields exceptionally clear quartz, natural citrine, actinolite-included quartz, scepter crystals, and rare ametrine specimens where amethyst has grown over earlier citrine. Formed within fractured granitic rock and exposed by alpine glaciation, each crystal records multiple stages of mineral growth, fluid movement, and mountain-scale erosion. Remote, seasonal, and accessible only by helicopter, King Citrine is a true source locality for untreated Canadian citrine and one of the province’s most remarkable modern gem and mineral discoveries.
