Description: Morion quartz is a dark variety of quartz known for its deep black to very dark brown coloration, caused by natural irradiation and trace aluminum within the crystal structure. Specimens from Inner Mongolia commonly form in hydrothermal veins associated with granitic environments, where silica-rich fluids slowly crystallize into well-formed quartz. The darker tones can range from translucent smoky brown to nearly opaque black, depending on the level of irradiation and internal structure.

This material is essentially a heavily irradiated form of smoky quartz, with its color intensity reflecting prolonged exposure to natural radiation over geological time. Despite its dark appearance, many pieces will show some translucency when held to strong light. Morion quartz has been historically valued both as a mineral specimen and as a gemstone, particularly in European and Asian markets where darker quartz varieties have long been used in carving and ornamentation.

Metaphysically, morion quartz is often associated with grounding and protection. Its deep coloration is said to symbolize absorption of negative energy and emotional stability, making it a popular choice for those drawn to darker, more subdued stones.
