Description: This one of a kind Pyrite on Morion specimen from Romania features a dramatic bed of dark smoky-black Morion Quartz crystals with a rounded, sphere-like Pyrite formation prominently positioned on the crystal surface. The Morion Quartz points show deep brown to black translucency, glossy terminations, and clustered growth across the matrix, creating a bold contrast with the brassy, metallic Pyrite. The large Pyrite formation has a textured, rounded surface that gives the specimen a distinctive focal point and strong sculptural display appeal.

Morion is the darkest variety of Smoky Quartz, coloured by natural radiation and trace elements within the quartz structure. Pyrite, often called “fool’s gold,” is an iron sulfide mineral known for its bright metallic lustre and cubic or massive crystal habits. Romania has a long mining history, especially in the Maramures region, where classic European mineral specimens including Quartz, Pyrite, Sphalerite, Galena, and other sulfide minerals have been collected. This type of Pyrite on dark Quartz is most likely from a hydrothermal vein environment where quartz and sulfide minerals formed together.
