They are extremely well carved and detailed - each carving took a skilled craftsman many hours of work to complete. Pyrite often breaks during the carvings process due to its brittleness, which is reflected in the pricing of these carvings. Pyrite, often known as "fool's gold" due to its metallic luster and yellow-gold color, is an iron sulfide mineral with the chemical formula FeS₂.
